Alternate Use Platform Easements

Federal law (Energy Policy Act 2005 Section 388 of Public Law [PL] 109-58); 30 CFR 285.1000 Subpart J) authorizes the use of offshore platforms for Alternate Use Right-of-Use and Easements issued by the Department of Interior (DOI) Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM). EcoRigs secures agreements with existing leaseholders for these easements from BOEM to harvest marine invertebrates and ornamental fish. No alteration of the structures is required and decommissioning requirements for the platform are deferred during the term of the easement. Target species are harvested in a sustainable manner.
